Give a Damn| Event
Give a Damn is a week dedicated to social justice with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Inspired by the historical photo of LEC students in the 1960's protesting the Vietnam War, the week will reflect LEC’s long tradition of activism and speaking up about the current issues that impact society today.
LEC wants to know what you give a damn about! Keep an eye out for survey boxes on the Holden stage where you can submit questions and comments to AVI, Student Life, and President Schuller!
Monday - March 18
What do you Give a Damn About?
What do you Give a Damn About? students will write down what they care about, their passion areas, to display for the week. (upper Holden, during lunch)
Tuesday - March 19
Give a Damn about Volunteering
Give a Damn about Volunteering Fair on the Holden stage from 11am-1pm.
Local organizations will be featured at a Give a Damn about Volunteering Fair during lunch outside Holden.
In the evening we will feature speakers from the same/varying organizations to talk more specifically about their roles and their work, held in the Library.
Wednesday - March 20
Give a Damn about Student Organizations.
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m - Holden Stage - Students can hear from active clubs on campus about upcoming meetings, events, and ways to get involved.
2:30 p.m. - Transgender poet and activist, Pella Felton will be presenting, "Which is the Master: Creating Language As an Act of Change." This will focus on the "Alphabet soup" of modern gender and LGBTQ studies and how we can create new vocabulary to give presences to underrepresented experiences.
6:30 p.m. - Rickel theater - "Trans Philogyny: Finding Trans Hope in a time of Grief" It will be a combination of poetry and more extemporaneous speaking, but it will focus on performance as a technology of change and how we can use our presences to resist forces which erase our bodies from public life.
Thursday - March 21
Give a Damn about ice cream!
T- shirt handout for picture recreation during lunch.
2:00 p.m. - Photo creation at the back of college hall.
2-4 p.m. - Join us for the photo recreation and get a voucher sponsored by the National Alumni Board to enjoy some ice cream from the East Coast Custard truck.
Friday - March 22
